SIR SYED GLOBAL SCHOLAR AWARD

(Previously Sir Syed Emerging Scholar Award)

Editor-In-Chief Adam Rizvi, The India Observer, TIO, NJ: July 19, 2023 (Aligarh, India) – The Sir Syed Education Society of North America, a reputable US-based non-profit organization, hosted a seminar at the Frank and Debbie Islam Management Complex in Aligarh, India, aimed to provide valuable insights to students interested in pursuing higher education abroad.

The seminar commenced with an introduction by Prof. Parvaiz Talib, along standing supporter of the Sir Syed Global Scholar Award (SSGSA). The main speaker, Mr. Shiva Agarwal, a senior SSGSA scholar and current PhD candidate in Physics at Western Michigan University, shared his expertise and personal experience with the attendees. Having completed his BSc and MSc in Physics at Aligarh Muslim University, Mr. Agarwal was able to provide unique insights into the application process and the benefits of the
SSGSA program. During his presentation, Mr. Agarwal highlighted the financial assistance and mentorship opportunities offered by the SSGSA, specifically tailored to assist AMU students and alumni in their pursuit of higher education in countries like the United States and Europe. He shared his own journey of securing a fully funded PhD position in the United States, inspiring the students in attendance.

Following the presentation, a lively Q&A session took place, where students had the opportunity to seek advice from Mr. Agarwal. They inquired about various aspects of the application process, such as how to approach professors through cold emails and the role of research papers in the selection process. The session proved to be highly beneficial, providing valuable guidance to students present, including this year’s SSGSA awardees.

Mr. Sajad Shiekh and Mr. Sachin Gupta, current co-chairs of the SSGSA program, expressed their gratitude to Prof. Jamal A Farooquie, Chairman of the Department of Business Administration, and Prof. Parvaiz Talib for their invaluable support in organizing the event on short notice. They also extended their appreciation to the dedicated staff members whose efforts made the seminar a success.
