Union Minister Gehlot Gets Grandson Married in Mass Wedding Ceremony

Ujjain, April 19: Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot has set an example with his grandson’s wedding. For the wedding on Wednesday evening, there was no lavish ceremony at a plush hotel. Instead, the couple sat on a tractor trolley along with 110 other such couples on way to their mass wedding venue. The wedding was held under the government scheme of Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana. Twenty-five-year-old Manish was part of the mass wedding ceremony held in Nagda town in Ujjain district. An elated grandfather, Minister Gehlot, could be seen dancing along the tractor-trolley as it made its way to the venue. Watch Video

Media reports suggest that another of Gehlot’s grandsons, 24-year-old Devendra, is to get married in a similar mass wedding ceremony later this month.  Gehlot has three grandsons, the eldest of whom would also be married in a simple way. Speaking to Navbharat Times, Gehlot said that if people wanted to see a change in society, they would have to begin with themselves. He said he wanted to lead by example. Gehlot also urged people to avoid unnecessary expenditure on weddings and go for simple ceremonies.

Gehlot is a prominent Dalit leader in the Modi Cabinet and he has often spoken out against social injustice. Interestingly, on the same day, elsewhere RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son Tej Pratap Singh Yadav was getting engaged to Aishwarya Rai at an ostentatious ceremony in Patna.
