Allahabad HC Stays Cremation of Rape Victim’s Father

Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court has ordered to stop the cremation of Unnao rape survivor’s father Wednesday. Meanwhile, the accused BJP MLA’s wife has threatened to commit suicide if her husband is proven guilty. She has also alleged that the media is presenting a one-sided picture of the story and maligning her husband and brother-in-law.

Two days after Unnao rape survivor’s father died due to shock and septicemia, as per a post mortem medical report,  the chief justice took suo moto cognizance of the letter written by the 18-year-old girl and said that if her father’s body has not been cremated, it should be put on hold. The matter has been posted for hearing on Thursday.

Meanwhile Sangeeta Senger, wife of the Bangarmau BJP MLA’s wife has spoken to the press and insisted on her husband and brother-in-law’s innocence, alleging the entire issue was backed by the Samajwadi Part and Bahujan Samajwadi party due to political rivalry. “If he is proven guilty, the entire family will give up their lives. The way evidences are being hidden, it is not correct, we want justice,” she stated before the media. She Sangeeta Senger also met UP DGP and demanded NARCO test of the survivor and her husband. The MLA’s wife, Sangeeta Singh Sengar, is the Unnao district council president while Atul Singh’s wife Archana Singh is the village head.

The survivor had tried to immolate herself near UP CM’s residence on Sunday after alleging that she was raped by the BJP MLA and his brothers. However, a day later, her father died at a hospital.

The father was in custody in Unnao when the incident occurred, prompting the girl to charge that he was killed inside the district jail at the behest of the BJP MLA. The post-mortem report suggested that he died due to shock and septicemia as “all the ante-mortem injuries on the victim’s body were fatal”.

According to the rape survivor’s complaint, Senger’s brother Atul and his aides pulled out the girl’s father from his house in Unnao, before the father’s arrest, and verbally abused him and assaulted him after tying him to a tree to deter him from pursuing the gang-rape case. Soon after, a team of Lucknow Crime Branch arrested Atul from his home.

The survivor’s family has also demanded a CBI inquiry into the death of her father. Hearing a petition filed by advocate Manohar Lal Sharma, the Supreme Court on Wednesday said that it will hear the plea for CBI probe next week. The petition has sought that the matter be handed over to the CBI for an independent investigation.

Such is the clout of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his family, so complete their grip on the village of Makhi, barely 15 km from Unnao, that the girl and her family have refused to return home, saying they fear for their lives.

The girl’s mother, who was waiting at the residence of the District Magistrate, said: “We will not return to the village until the situation is normal. The MLA and his associates must be planning something. No one in the village will dare support us. No one will raise his voice against the MLA and his family. They hold all administrative posts in the village.”

The ADG Lucknow zone Rajeev Krishna has meanwhile stated that the girl’s family will be provided full security.
